Yellowstone or Bust

This year our family vacation was going to be to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. The week before we were scheduled to leave, the area got record rainfall that caused massive flooding and lots of damage. Yellowstone Park announced that it would be closed due to the damage. Yellowstone encompasses a huge area and the entrance that we were staying by didn't see the devastating damage that some of the areas did. We weighed our options and decided to just go even if we couldn't go to Yellowstone. It wasn't something that we could reschedule due to work schedules and kids' activity schedules. This started as a vacation that was going to be ultra-planned to being a fly by the seat of our pants vacation.  We started our 12-hour car ride cautiously optimistic that all of us would make it without someone killing someone else.
The car ride was painfully long like we expected! We got to the super small town of Chug Water and stopped to get out and stretch our legs. We also found a cute little old fashion soda shop to get a snack at.

About 2 hours away from our destination everyone had had it. Caleb was car sick, and everyone was at each other's throats and hangry. We found a gluten free friendly pizza place. Caleb and I walked around outside to get him some air and once he felt better, we went in to eat too. Abby had some of the best gluten free pizza crust she had ever had. The food was delicious, our waiter was friendly and funny, and it was the break that we all needed to ride/drive the last 2 hours.
Robb and I were laughing at the ultra-specific instructions to our Air BNB. It was an entire paragraph that talked about what sign to turn by and how many cattle guards to go over. Come 1 am and it was pitch black in the middle of nowhere we were needing more specific directions.
