Playing Doctor
Abby has been a terrible sleeper for about the last 3 months now. So this last weekend when she was up all the time I just thought her not wanting to sleep was getting worse. Saturday her poor little eyes were all red and blood shot and she wasn't her normal happy self so we kind of suspected that she was getting sick. Monday I took her to the doctor and the poor little girl had a double ear infection. So we got started on an antibiotic so hopefully we have a happier little girl for her birthday party on Saturday. I thought this was so cute the other night. Bryce and Caleb had their doctor kit out and were going to fix Abby up for her party. I think we have been to the doctor a few too many times because he took a history and physical better than some residents that I have met. Ok maybe not but pretty close. He was asking How long has she been sick? What is wrong? Is she coughing? Is she crabby? Do you want her to get a shot? Is she taking any medicine? He then proceeded to listen to her heart and breathing and then took her temp and blood pressure and looked at her ears. Caleb then gave her numerous pretend shots and they said she would be better for her party so I hope they are right.
We were asking Bryce if he wants to be a doctor or a veterinarian someday. He said I want to be a doctorinarian. Who know maybe someday that will catch on. You and your dog could go to the doctor at the same time. Ha Ha

Funny Things They Say And Do!
-Bryce asked the other day "When Abby grows up will she STILL be a girl?"
-We were telling stories before bed time and Bryce wouldn't quit talking during Calebs story. So I told him to use his ears instead of his mouth and he very seriously said "How do I talk with my ears??"
-I was asking the boys what they wanted to be when they grow up and Caleb said he wanted to drive the truck that pushes snow. I asked him why he wanted to do that since everytime he has to go out in the cold he cries? He said "I would be sitting in the cab of the truck MOM.
-The boy's friends Finley and Ezra came over to play and Caleb can't ever seem to stay out of Finleys face. So when we were reading a book and Caleb laid his head on her lap I about died laughing when she gave him a look like "what the heck is wrong with this boy!"
-We were going to Lost in Fun to play the other day and on the way there I could hear Bryce in the back seat explaining to Abby that she really wouldn't get "lost" there that Lost in Fun is just the name of the place. Abby was all smiles that someone was talking to her.

A New Year
Well it is now 2010. I don't know that I will get used to writing that anytime soon. We rang in the New Year at 8pm that night with Squirt, cookies and some dancing music (Welcome to the Jungle). In Robbs words we got the kids all hopped up on cookies and Squirt and then attempted to put them to bed. Later on Robb and I watched a movie and rang in the New Year at the correct time with a little peace and quiet.
I must say this new year has started out challenging to me. I knew I must of had a very frustrating day with the kids one day because I ordered two self help books off of Amazon that day. I ordered "The No Cry Sleep Solution" for Abby and "Raising your Spirited Child" for Bryce and Caleb. I think this stems from my resolution to be a more patient mommy. Which by the way has not been going well. Probably about as well as everyones diets. :)
So this is what I am learning from my book. I am attempting to not negativly label Bryce and Caleb. So here are some of the suggestions that the book offers.
Demanding---holds high standards
Unpredictable---flexible
Loud---enthusiastic
Wild---full of gusto,energetic
Impatient---compelling
Explosive---dramatic
Whiny---analytical
Distractable---perceptive
So in other words since the kids haven't been out of the house much they are very enthusiatic and full of gusto. If they don't get what they want they become very analytical and seem to hold very high standards of me. I guess this does seem to sugar coat it a little instead of saying "Since the kids haven't been out of the house much lately they are very loud and wild. If they don't get what they want they become very whiny and demanding.
Even though the labeling chapter was pretty funny. Overall the book has been helpful. It has made me realize that I am an introvert that is living with 3 spirited extroverts. Maybe I have a chance of having a buddy in the house since I think Abbys personality is still pretty undecided. So it has given me some helpful tips for keeping my cool. So I will let you know how things go as I practice the advice I have learned.
The other book that we bought for Abby "The No Cry Sleep Solution" has not been going well. We are too big of softies and crave sleep. So Abby ends up in our bed every night because we get tired of rocking her back to sleep and putting her in her crib only to have to do it again in 30 min. So for now Abby gets what she wants and we lose the sleeping in your crib battle but we have won the getting a little sleep battle. :)
Happy New Year !
