Fathers Day

After a busy weekend of 2 parties we decided to have a pretty low key Fathers Day. We went to Pawnee lake to swim at the beach. It was the perfect day to be in the water. It was hot and sunny. Later that night Robb and the boys went to the range to hit a few balls. While he was gone Abby got sick and poor Robb finished his Fathers Day off with getting puked on. I guess that is what being a dad is all about. Happy Father's Day Robb. You are the best husband and father I could ever ask for. We are lucky to have you!

A Day The Way They Want It

For my birthday and Mother's day Robb kept saying "We will do whatever Mom wants to do since this is her day". For Robb's birthday I did the same thing so when it came to Bryce and Caleb's birthday they had quite the day planned since in their minds we were going to do everything they wanted to do. The morning started with a special request for breakfast- lots of bacon and pancakes. Next we played in the basement until it was time for lunch which was the tasty choice of McDonalds of course.

When Robb got home they got to open their birthday gifts. They each got a Razor scooter which they call Laser scooters.

After supper we went downtown to get icecream.

To top off the night they helped Daddy set up the tent and slept in there with Robb all night. Pretty nice dad to sleep in a tent all night when you have to work in the morning.

Happy Birthday Boys!

Bryce and Caleb

Caleb aka K-BE, Bubby, Cabe. He goes by many names. Caleb is the bigger of the 2 boys. He is just a solid kid, with his wide shoulders and strong build. But he is a big softy. He loves girls and just seems to make friends with them easily. He is pretty easy going and tends to get nervous and shy in big crowds. He loves to eat (all the time) and is always asking what his next meal is going to be. He has loved anything that goes since birth. His favorites are 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, tractors and motorcycles. He loves to ride his bike, play basketball, golf, play with Bryce and Abby, play in the pool or around water and he can't wait to go on the boat and go wakeboarding.

Bryce aka Bryceman, and Pice (this is what Abby calls him) is older by 1 minute but he always uses that to his advantage. He is stubborn as can be (I have no idea where he gets this) and he likes to be in control of things. If the day doesn't go how he thinks it should it's not pretty. He is very social and doesn't get too shy even in big crowds. He loves talking to adults, actually he just really likes to talk! His favorite toys are super heroes. He used to love everything Spiderman but now he has moved onto Batman. He loves to play with Caleb, dress up as super heroes, play legos, watch movies, play basketball, play in the pool and anything outside.

My Boys Are 5!

Our last picture before we became parents.

This is the morning before the C-section. I was HUGE!

Bryce and Caleb's first picture together.

It is hard to believe that we now have 5 year olds! It really doesn't seem like it was 5 years ago that we were headed to the hospital to meet our little boys. Over the last 5 years they have given us endless joy and a fair amount of stress but have taught us to be parents. A job I wouldn't give up for anything.

Summer Fun

Watch out! Abby's got a gun.

Bryce making a big splash!

Caleb doing cannon balls!

Summer Fun

It is finally nice and HOT out and we have been enjoying every minute of it! The kids have been having a blast swimming in the baby pool, having water fights, using squirt guns and running under the sprinklers. Our kids love to be outside and now that the days are hot it is impossible to keep them in. Last Thursday they started swimming lessons again and did really well. We went swimming as a family on Sunday and they loved it even though Robb and I thought the water was pretty cold.
This week they also have vacation bible school and they are loving it. They know a couple of kids in their class from preschool and Sunday school so they weren't nearly as nervous to go this year. Robb and I have had fun trying to guess what bible lesson they learned about for the day by listening to their version of it. It is pretty funny what they manage to pick up from the stories and then the 2 of them combine stories and it gets a little tricky to guess. Everyday that we have dropped the boys off, Abby wants to be held the entire time. She wants to make sure that she isn't getting left there too. We have been doing a little shopping and running errands while the boys are in vbs. Luckily she likes to shop so she has been a good little shopping buddy.

Memorial Weekend Fun

We had a great Memorial weekend. Robb was supposed to have to work on his project in Calamus most of the weekend so the kids and I decided to head back to Norfolk. We left Thursday afternoon for Norfolk. Thursday, we went to the park with Grandma and Andy and the kids got to play with their cousins Brook and AJ while I got a chance to catch up with Ginger. Brooks birthday had been earlier in the week so the boys were very excited to give her the birthday presents that we had got her. The kids also got to bottle feed baby calves at the neighbors house. This was always something that I loved to do at my grandparents farm in the spring so I was glad that they got the chance to try it. Abby was very excited! It did involve most of her favorite things, bottles, baby animals, Andy and grandparents. She wasn't nervous at all. She even let the calves suck on her fingers when he was done with his bottle. Caleb did a good job but didnt't seem very excited about it and Bryce was very nervous about it which was surprising. He wanted me to help the whole time.
Thursday night Robb came down to Norfolk also. It had been raining in Calamus all day so they weren't able to go onto the next step of the project.
Friday, the kids spent the entire morning jumping on the trampoline with their uncle Andy. After eating some of our favorite Chinese food we headed over to Steph's house to see Draven. The kids played really nice together and my sis and I got a chance to chat for a while. Although the weather was pretty cloudy and rainy it meant that Robb got to spend the weekend with us instead of having to be in Calamus. Later on Friday, Susie and I went to get pedicures which was so enjoyable! I was long over due for one. While we did pedicures Andy and Bob went to Stanton so Andy could take his drivers test...and he Passed! He even drove us home from our pedicures. I can't believe he is that old already. That night we went to the movie KungFu Panda at the Norfolk theatre. The kids all had a good time and the movie was cute. I think between the boys, Abby, Brook and Andy we probably about ran the theatre out of popcorn.
Saturday was a little nicer and the kids and I went to Plainview to fish with Grandpa and Grandma Mattern. The boys have only been fishing maybe 1 other time so they were very excited. It was windy out so Grandpa was afraid we wouldn't catch anything but I think Bryce's fishing pool was maybe in the water for 2 minutes when he had a bite. I helped him reel it in and he had caught a blue gill. He was so excited but decided to throw it back after Grandpa explained that it would die if we kept it. We stayed for about another hour but no one else caught anything. Caleb was a great fisherman though. He would sit there really quiet and watch his bobber in the water. He also really liked playing with the worms. Bryce was a wild fisherman after he caught his fish. He wanted to throw his line out and then reel it right back in and kept doing this. In the process he would get all the lines tangled up. Abby was pretty interested in playing with the worms. She would wipe all the dirt off of them and then hold them in her hand to pet them. Defiantly not a girly girl. I think I managed to impress Caleb with the fact that I could cut my own worm in half and put it on the hook all by myself. I'm not sure but I think that made me a little cooler in his eyes. After fishing we went to Orchard to see my Grandma and Grandpa Mattern. They are in Arizona a lot and don't get many chances to see the kids so I wanted the kids to see them this summer. We chatted with them for a while before we headed back to Norfolk. The boys were so tired from fishing that they ended up napping during most of our visit, but what do you do. They had a busy day! Robb had a fun day too, he went golfing with his dad and brother. He hasn't got to golf yet this summer so he had been anxious to go.
Sunday, we went to church and then we had planned to go on a picnic with my mom but the weather didn't cooperate. So instead of a picnic we went to her house. We had yummy picnic food inside and had fun talking to everyone. My grandparents had made it up from Orchard so it was fun to see them play with the kids.
Late Sunday night we headed home. We had all had a great weekend and it was nice that Robb got to be there with us. The only draw back was that we now had to drive two cars back to Lincoln.
