Our Baby Turns One!
Well it has taken me a while to get this post written. Abby turned 1 on January 29th. I must admit I had mixed feelings about this day. I am excited that she is growing up and is turning into a little girl instead of a baby, but at the same time I want to keep her little forever. With the boys I was always so excited for the next stage and now that they are 3 I realize how fast time goes by.
We had a little family celebration Thursday night. We gave her the pink buggy car that we bought her. She thought it was pretty fun and the boys had fun pushing her around in it. Then we ate cupcakes that we had made. We let Abby eat hers and she just smeared the frosting around. I think Caleb was about as messy as Abby was eating hers. Friday evening we packed everything up and headed to Norfolk for the big birthday party on Saturday.
Luckily, by Saturday Abby was finally feeling better from her ear infection. We were excited to have everyone over. Bryce and Caleb were more excited for the party than anyone. They spent the morning telling Abby all about parties and helping grandpa blow up helium ballons. Everyone came over at about 4. We had a nice meal and everyone had a chance to catch up. The big bonus about having it in Norfolk was that all the aunts, uncles, grandparents and even some of Abby's great grandparents got to be there. Not to mention it was really nice not having to get our house cleaned while three little monkeys were tearing it up right behind us. Bryce and Caleb had fun playing with their cousins. Right before supper Abby fell asleep so we let her sleep for a little while before waking her up. We woke up the poor girl so she could eat her cake so she was a little sleepy at first. We had our neighbor Kristin make the lady bug cake which turned out adorable! We took the lady bug off the top and that was Abby's smash cake. She didn't dig into her cake right away. She just picked off little pieces of frosting until her uncle Andy stuck her hand in it. Then she looked up and held her messy hand up, wanting someone to clean it off. We gave her a spoon and then she dug in. Caleb stole the show a little by crawling half way up on the table to lick the frosing off the spatula that I used to take the lady bug cake off. Crazy kid will do anything for frosting!
Later we opened gifts. Actually Bryce, Caleb and Brook opened gifts for her which was very fun to watch. She got so many nice and fun toys and clothes. All in all the day couldn't have been better. I think Abby had a great time and a lot of our family and friends got to celebrate our little girls first birthday with us.
