Caleb's First Broken Bone

Poor Caleb! I have to say that I am impressed that we made it to age 10 before he got a broken bone. It still doesn't make it any less painful or sad for this active guy! Caleb and Bryce were at their friend Ethan's house and Robb was picking Ethan up to come to our house and play. They were playing football and Bryce tackled Caleb just right and they heard a pop. Robb had called to see what I thought and it is really hard to tell over the phone how bad things are but they decided to not bring Ethan home and just see how things went. I knew it wasn't good when Caleb was still crying when he got home. Robb took him to Linc Care and they xrayed it and sure enough he had broken his clavicle in 2 spots.

Even though Bryce is smiling here, he felt terrible about hurting his brother. Caleb did say he was glad that it wasn't Bryce that had gotten hurt because Bryce loves basketball and Caleb plays but doesn't love it like Bryce. Bryce has been helping Caleb write all of his homework and catch up with everything.

The Sorry Note.

On Monday we went to see an Orthopedic doctor and he said he was lucky that it was just a simple kid break and he would bounce back quick but the first week would be tough. He was right! The first week has proven to be a challenge. He stayed home from school for a couple of days until we could finally get his pain under control without the pain medicine making him sick. The poor kiddo didn't get much sleep the first couple of nights.

On Wednesday, he was feeling pretty down and out about no PE, no sports, no running, no recess so we did the only thing I could think of. We went and got Hurts Donuts. Love this kid! I fear that this will probably not be our last broken bone but I sure hope so! I hate seeing my kids in pain.
