Trunk or Treat

The Multiples Club annual Trunk or Treat was tonight. The kids had a good time doing this last year so we thought we would do it again this year. The kids have been looking forward to this all weekend. Bryce picked to be a Hulk this year. He looks so cute with his big muscle costume. Caleb is Buzz Lightyear. He picked this costume because it had wings and he wants to fly. We had to make an agreement that their would not be any flying. Abby is a princess this year. She loves everything "censis" so it was an obvious choice.
The kids had a great time! Quite a few people were there and I think their were about 4 Buzz Lightyears. The boys were pro trick or treater and Abby caught on pretty quick. They got a lot of candy so let the sugar highs begin.

Halloween Party

The annual neighborhood Halloween party was on Saturday. Megan the boy's godmother had agreed to watch the kids so we could go. We were the costume winners last year so we had to come up with something good again. We decided to be hippies. It was pretty funny! When we came downstairs with our wigs on, Abby wouldn't even go to Robb until he took the wig off. Since Megan had agreed to babysit and since she is thier godmother we figure she has to love them even if they are wild and rowdy. We went out to eat too. So all in all it was a very fun night. Robb and I got to eat supper out together and we had a good time with friends and neighbors at the party. The kids had a great time with Megan and her mom. They did craft and art time, something mom doesn't let them do enough. We didn't take home the trophy for the second year in a row though. Maybe next year.

Bedtime Chaos

Lately bedtime at our house has been horrible! We decided about 2 weeks ago to finally stack the boys bunk beds. Their room is kind of small anyway and they keep accumulating more and more stuff, so we needed the room. We thought they would be excited about sleeping on the top bunk and we worried that we would have a constant fight about who was going to sleep on the top. The exact opposite happened. No one ever slept on the top bunk! Bryce at one point told me he wasn't afraid of the monsters in the haunted house at the pumpkin patch just sleeping on the top bed. So needless to say the boys haven't been sleeping well because they have been sharing the full size bed on the bottom. Although they would occasionally sleep together before, they sleep much better in separate beds. We are somewhat transitioning away from taking an afternoon nap about half the time. With the boys sleeping in the same beds naps had become non existent.
So this weekend we took the beds down. It was kind of a sad day. It was so nice to have that extra floor space in their room but I'm not willing to sacrifice sleep for walking room in their bedroom. So hopefully we have cured the boys sleeping problems.
Abby has been a sleeping disaster from the start. I don't know if its the fact that she is a singleton, a girl or probably our last baby, but we haven't ever put our foot down when it came to her bedtime. She is now 20 months old and as embarrassing as this is to admit we have been holding her until she goes to sleep and then putting her in her bed. I know this is against anything any child raising book says. We have just got into a rut and now we feel bad changing everything on her. We have also now reached the point where she is done with her crib so there is no way to contain her now while we attempt to change her sleeping habits. So not only do we hold her until she is asleep, we go in and sleep in her full size bed with her when she wakes up during the night and to top it off we still give her a cup of milk in the middle of the night. I know what you are probably thinking by now, you are probably laughing your head off thinking we are the biggest suckers ever. We really did much better with the boys! By the time they were 12 months they would put themselves to sleep in their cribs and sleep through the night without a milk cup. Like I said many wrong turns and sleep deprived decisions have gotten us to the point where we are. So Saturday night was my breaking point. I was attempting to put Abby to sleep but I was really just wanting to spend my Saturday evening with my hubby instead of going to bed at 9:00. Abby was crawling all over me saying No No Nigh Night. She had head butted my twice and was sticking her fingers in my mouth, eyes and ears. It was very apparent that this was not going to be a quick bedtime. I laid there with her dinking around for about 40 min and I was done! Robb tried putting her to bed for another 20 min and the decision was made. She was going to go to sleep in her own bed if we had to say up all night for that to happen. We put her in her bed with her blankie and doll and told her goodnight. After we left she screamed her head off, kicked the door and babbled angrily which sounded a lot like she was cussing us out. We let that go on for 10 min and went in to comfort her and then the same thing happened another 4 times before she finally gave up and went to sleep. It was horrible! We felt like such crummy parents putting her through this at such an old age. I hope to God she doesn't remember!
I am happy to report last night was not nearly as painful of a process. We put her to bed in her own room by herself and she fell asleep in about 10 min. Although at midnight she was crying and I did end up sleeping in her room the rest of the night. I guess we just need to undo this mess we have created one thing at a time. Wish us luck and patience!

Scarecrow Making

Saturday we went to a workshop at the Children's Museum where you got to make scarecrow. I was very excited to make a scarecrow with the kids. I'm not sure Robb shared my excitement but he was a good sport. Bryce picked out the overalls, Caleb picked out the shirt and Abby picked the hat. I was surprised how much paper stuffing a scarecrow takes. The boys did a good job with helping out but we lost Abby's attention pretty quick. Luckily we kept her at the table with fruit snacks and a princess book. About half way through our big art project a reporter from Fremont asked if he could take some pictures of the kids for a story he was working on. He took pictures while the kids helped us put stuffing in and glue the face on. He also asked the boys what their favorite part of the Children's Museum was. It was very cute to hear their answers. I am curious to see if they make his story on Monday. Our finished scarecrow turned out pretty cute and the boys are pretty proud of him.

Pumpkin Painting

The whole group.

Tuesday night we took the kids to the Multiples Club pumpkin painting party. We brought our own pumpkins that we had picked out at Russ's the night before. We had planned to make it to the pumpkin patch again to actually get pumpkins but it seems like October has flown by. Emalea, the head of the club provided stickers, foam pieces and paints. The kids dug right in. Bryce and Caleb put the sticker faces on very carefully and started painting. Abby decided to put her sticker face on completely upside down. I guess she was being creative. They all did a great job painting. Bryce's goal was to paint as much of the pumpkin as he could. Caleb was making hair for his and Abby wanted to put as many girly colors on as possible.
The club had a really good turn out, partially due to the beautiful weather. This time last year we had already had snow. The kids ate treats and then ran around like crazy playing tag outside. It was a really fun family night!

Pumpkin Patch

Roca Berry Farms

We made our first trip to the pumpkin patch last Tuesday. Kendra, the nanny that used to watch the kids came with us. She has been so good about keeping in touch with the kids. We picked a beautiful day to go to the pumpkin patch. The kids loved the castle play area with the huge slide. Even Abby went down the slide! I think the favorite thing of the day though was the little trikes that they could ride around the track. Bryce and Caleb were tearing around the track and Abby liked riding while someone pushed her until she saw the cut out of Snow White and then she stood by that yelling "A Cincess"! That is how she says princess. It is pretty cute.
Bryce was convined that he wanted to go into the scary house. Kendra and I kept trying to tell him that he wouldn't like it but he didn't believe us. We let him walk into the little kids haunted house and he got nervous because it was too dark. Silly kid!
Caleb's favorite thing was the Munster Mash band that played. He stood there and did his own version of the robot. It was hilarious. We had so much fun that it was time to go and we hadn't rode on the hayrack ride out to the field to get a pumpkin. Oh well I guess we will have to go again.
