We had a great 4th of July weekend! It is amazing at how much having one extra day makes in the weekend. On Friday night we went to a friends BBQ in Beatrice. Bryce and Caleb were really excited because you could do fireworks in Beatrice and we couldn't yet in Lincoln. We had fun chatting with friends, eating wonderful food and watching some fireworks. This was the first night of many that our kids got to bed really Late.
On Saturday morning Robb had planned to take the boys to the golf range and I was a going to take Abby to the Farmer's Market. However when we told them the plans, Abby had a fit because she wanted to go the the range and Bryce really wanted to go to the Farmer's Market so that's what we did. Bryce and I had a great time at the market. He didn't even care when I spent way too much time and money at the craft booths like his dad does. We didn't get the one thing we really wanted though... Sweet Corn! I don't think Robb and Caleb had quite as much fun. When we walked in, the first thing out of Caleb's mouth was "Abby is really FRUSTRATING at the golf course". Robb looked kinda mad and Abby came up and said "No cry at golf or have to sit in the car". So my guess is that was a one time thing. We took it pretty easy the rest of the day. The kids swam in the pool some and did snaps in the driveway with the neighbor kids.
Sunday we did slip-n-slide for a lot of the afternoon in the front yard with a lot of the neighbor kids. Later that night we went to the neighborhood BBQ. It was fun getting to see everyone and talk to everyone not to mention the delicious food. We spent the rest of the evening in their driveway while the dads tried to keep all the kids safe while they lit off the kiddy fireworks and then later in the night the dads broke out the BIG fireworks. Bryce and Caleb loved everything about the 4th of July. They got to hang out with friends, stay up late, eat and drink a lot of sugar and watch and light fireworks. Abby however did not love the 4th of July. She was nervous about being in a crowd, everything was loud and scary and staying up late just makes her a giant CRAB. We made it through though. She did one sparkler with one of the neighbor girls and we borrowed a pair of hunting headphones so the fireworks weren't as loud for her.
On the 4th we went to the Wavery Parade. I was super excited about this! Maybe that makes me uncool but I always remember enjoying parades as a kid. I felt bad that our kids have never been to a parade. Robb on the other hand was not so excited to attend the parade but being the good husband and dad that he is, he agreed to go so I didn't have to do it alone. We went with some friends of ours from Waverly so the kids were excited to see them and to see what a parade was all about. They loved it! Bryce was all about getting as much candy as he possibly could. He waved to everyone that went by hoping to get candy. Caleb really enjoyed seeing all the motorcycles, cars, and tractors. Abby liked seeing the animals that walked by. She was hilarious when it came to parade candy. She would only get one piece at a time and eat it right away. By the time we were done she had a pile of wrappers in her spot. After the parade we went to one of the churches that was having lunch and ice cream and pie. The pie was delicious!
We all took a long nap after a fun morning. Later that night we had some neighbors over for supper and I made homemade ice cream for the first time. I turned out delicious! The dads finally decided that the kids could have punks and light smoke bombs. This kept them busy for a really long time. They were very excited about getting to light stuff by themselves. We spent the rest of the evening in the driveway lighting fireworks. Abby again hated everything about it so her and I called it an early night. The 4th of July weekend was a lot of fun!
