Catch up
I am finally back! Our laptop computer cord broke a couple of weeks ago and it took forever to get a new one. We managed with it for a while but it eventually just broke in half, so we were without a computer for a couple of weeks.
So... I will try to catch you up. We went to a family reunion for the Mattern side of the family which was held in Lincoln. It was fun to see some of the relatives that we don't get to see a lot and the kids got to see their grandparents. Abby finally decided that Grandpa Steve wasn't so scary after he fed her pop and helped her with her shoes. We also started a BIG project at our house. Robb is building a big deck on the back of our house. I am very excited for the end product but I have a feeling that it could take awhile. At least Robb is willing to take on such a project.
The next weekend we headed to Norfolk to help out with the apartments a little. Grandpa and Grandma Mattern had offered to keep the boys Friday night and Saturday. We celebrated Dad's birthday that night and just had fun playing outside and getting to talk to everyone. Bryce and Caleb did pretty well staying over at their house. I think they kept their grandparents pretty busy. Bryce said his favorite part was stopping at the park and eating out for breakfast. Caleb's favorite part was riding the golf cart, mower and seeing Grandpa get in the baby pool. I would have liked to see that too.
Sunday, I took the kids to Yankton to see my Great Grandma Ilene which makes her their Great, Great Grandma. She was back from California so it was nice to see her, but it was also bitter sweet because this is the first time she was back without my grandpa Eddie who passed this last year. It was sad to hear the boys say "where is the funny man who was with grandma last year" but it also made me so glad that they got to meet grandpa Eddie and had some memory of him. Him being funny is a pretty accurate memory too. Love ya Grandpa Eddie.
On Monday the kids and I headed to Columbus with Andy and my sister Steph and Draven. We went to the Pawnee Plunge waterpark. I was one of the hottest days of the year so it was a perfect day to be in the water. I had fun getting to see my sis and the kids had a wonderful time playing. Robb was working in Columbus that day and got to join us at the waterpark too.
Bryce and Caleb took swimming lessons the first 2 weeks in August. They love the water and have no fear so it was time to have them start learning to swim. They took lessons from a lady that does them at her home in her backyard pool. They were in a class of 4 little boys. They had a good time and I think the even learned a few things. Poor Abby had to sit on the patio melting two days a week. She really wanted in the pool! I think we will have them take another session in Sept. after preschool starts.

Fun Filled Week
As always I am a little behind on blogging but thats nothing new. Last week the kids and I met my mom in Columbus to go to the waterpark there. We had taken the boys last year and they had so much fun that we decided to do it again this year. This time around we also took Abby, so I recuited my brother to come for another set of eyes and hands. The day was a little cloudy to start out so the waterpark wasn't very busy, which was very nice. Mitch and his girlfriend Courtney and my mom came so each kid had an adult which made it so much easier. We stayed there all afternoon. Abby missed her nap so she was a little grumpy and ended up falling asleep while my mom was holding her. Bryce and Caleb has a blast. Bryce did the lily pads that you had to walk across about 10 times. Caleb was just loving the swimming. After spending the day at the waterpark we all headed back to Norfolk where we spent the night. My nephew Draven also stayed at my moms house, so we kind of had a little boys slumber party. Poor uncle Mitch got woke up at 7am when the kids got up, probably the earliest he has been up all summer!
Thursday, morning we got all the kids ready and headed to Orchard where my grandparents live. I haven't been to thier house in probably 3 years. They come up to Lincoln occasionally and it is usually such a long drive from Lincoln that we don't brave it with the kids, but from Norfolk it is only an hour drive. It was fun to see the farm again. Some of my best childhood memories are from staying with my grandparents in the summer and playing on the farm. The kids loved it. The boys caught frogs, looked at all the tractors, motorcycles and 4 wheelers, picked mulberries and even got to take a ride in the tractor with grandpa. Abby had fun walking around looking at the garden and they had lots of farm kitties running around that she really wanted to catch. We left in the afternoon and all the kids slept all the way home. The best part, other than seeing my grandparents was that we came home with a lot of sweet corn.
Later that day Robb's parents watched the kids for a while so I could sneak over to see my new nephew AJ. He already looked bigger and he was such a sweetie. It was nice to get my baby cuddle time in.

Things I Never Knew I Would Say Or Have To Explain
As Bryce and Caleb get older I realize that when you raise kids things that aren't normal at all become common in your everyday life. Lately I have noticed that I have to explain some really odd things or I end up saying some really bizarre things. Here are just a few of them.
- Do not drill in your brothers mouth! I don't care if you are playing dentist or not.
-Yeah, you can go to the bathroom outside since you are all wet from the pool. (A little while later... Caleb when you went to the bathroom outside did you poop outside?!!! Yep I had to explain that even though I said he could go to the bathroom outside, that never includes pooping.
-You can pretend that Abby is a baby monster but you can not tackle her and try to kill her if you are using your sister as the monster.
-I can honestly say that before I had kids I never had the dilema of dropping the entire roll of toilet paper in the toilet. Now that occurs weekly at our house. Sometimes I have to explain why we aren't just going to let it dry so we can use it later. We just throw it away!
-No, a diving board for the baby pool is not safe! But hey it looks fun go ahead and do it anyway. Just be careful.
-It's not safe to tie the rope around your brother while he climbs a tree.
-Please do not touch the yellow spot on the public toilet! Yes it is wet because it is someone else's pee!
-Please do not look inside the little trash can that hangs on the wall of the womens bathroom. Yes, it is gross.
-Do not open the jar that you have your toad in while we are in the car. Why not mom? He won't be able to get outside so we won't lose him.
