My ankle that doesn't look like it belongs on my body. I now have an old man leg and a cankle.
Last Thursday I had a follow up appointment at Lincoln Orthopedic Center. It has now been 10 weeks since I broke my ankle and I am so ready for this recovery to be over. From talking to the Dr that will not be the case. He said my ankle will not feel "normal"and will continue to swell for the next 6 months. It is never good to impress your doctor. Every time I have been back he pulls up my xray and again tells me how he can't believe that I broke it this bad by falling on the ice.
I did however get cleared to drive! Thank goodness! I feel like I finally have my freedom back. I also got cleared to go back to work. I do have to keep wearing the boot most of the time but can start to take it off 1-2 hours a day and start walking around without it. He did give me a lecture on supportive shoes and was not impressed by my ballet flats that I had wore into the office (on my left food of course). After his lecture about supportive footwear I had to ask about wearing flip flops this summer. His response was " You have a 40 thousand dollar ankle now do you think you should put it in 5 dollar shoes?" This was some very SAD news to me! I wear flip flops all spring, summer and fall. I guess I will have to go shoe shopping and find some cute and supportive sandals for this summer.
