Soccer...what do I say about soccer this year? Abby thought she wanted to play soccer again this year which surprised us since she didn't really seem to enjoy it at all last year. We were glad that she showed interest and Robb agreed to coach again if one of the dads would co coach. We talked to one of the dads from the year before and he agreed to co coach. We also made the decision to play in the spirit league so that the girls could have a practice during the week and so that we would play at the fields that were close to our house as opposed to the ones that were clear across town. Once Robb started reviewing the rules for the spirit league we knew we were way out our league! The girls had to play on the big fields, they now had a goalie and the coach couldn't be on the field. Yikes these girls were not ready for any of that!
Robb did his best to coach the Owls, that is what they decided their team name would be, however I think they were a bit beyond help. It was a fun group of girls but only one out of 12 was aggressive on the field at all. The other girls were more into socializing at practice and games and less into running really hard or caring if they won. Which I guess was good because we scored our first and only goal the very last game. It was painful to watch the games because I felt bad for the girls but they never seemed to care. They always had big plans to hang our with each other after the game.
They gave it a good try but I'm not sure that any of these girls had the competitive drive to play in the spirit league. We really should have stuck with micro soccer. Robb was a good sport about coaching but he doesn't plan to coach the Owls next year.
I feel bad that I don't have a better picture but Abby was late on picture day because she couldn't get her hair up how she wanted it and then we missed the last game due to Andy's graduation party.
