Last fall we had signed the boys up for Screaming Eagles football. We had heard it was very competitive and well organized. We had also been warned about Dave the head of the program who was something else. The boys were excited to start and practices started 2 weeks before school started and it was 3 days a week. After an email that we received from Dave before the season started I was worried that this was the wrong program for us and I kinda wanted to quit before they even started. Robb of course was against that and they started practices.
Right from the beginning I was worried that this was a bad decision. A couple practices in Bryce was pretty upset at the position that he would be playing and Caleb was struggling with how the coaching was going. Dave was not only the head of the program he was also the 5th grade coach since he had a son in that grade (something we did not know). He only coached to his first string players and he made all the other kids feel worthless. Since neither of the boys had played tackle football last year they were behind in knowing what to do and his coaching put them on edge. After the first week the boys were faking sick to get out of going to practice. Bryce had said he hated football and was never playing again and Caleb was a ball of nerves all the time. They started crying before practice and worrying about all day long. As their mom I hated this! It was a just a game and we were making them miserable! It became a sore subject in our house because I wanted them out of that situation but Robb wanted them to finish what they had started. It got so bad that I really didn't trust that they were in good hands if we just dropped them off at practice so Robb stood at football 3 nights a week. Something finally happened one night at practice and Robb called and said that they had decided to quit the team. Truthfully, I was thrilled! I felt like this jerk of a coach was ruining this sport for them and I hated that. Robb had started watching the Jr Titan practice and he had asked how to go about joining that team for next year. The coaches were very welcoming and said that they would love to have the boys this year and they could pick up their gear and start practice right away. Both boys were on board with his and we were no longer Eagles but JR Titans. It was the best decision we could have ever made!
