Bryce and Caleb took me by surprise one day after school. They both came running up to me, begging to go to the Roper School Skate Night. The school hosts a skate night every month and they have never brought up the fact that they wanted to go. I really did not feel like taking 3 kids skating that night after having a long couple days at work. They were just so excited about it that I caved. Robb did offer to take them by himself but I felt too guilty to make him do that. None of our kids have ever roller skated before and I didn't remember how hard it was to learn. In middle school and junior high the skate rink was the cool place to be, so I was a pretty decent skater. I must admit throughout the night I was wishing I had skates but Robb was my voice of reason and said NO WAY. I guess he did have a couple pretty good points: 1) I managed to break my ankle just walking last year and 2) I am 7 months pregnant.
Bryce was too cool for much help and I guess holding your moms hand is pretty lame so off he went and the poor guy fell a lot! He held onto the wall and the second he would let go he was on the ground.
By the end of the night he could go a few steps without falling but it still wasn't pretty.
Caleb doesn't like doing anything that he isn't good at and was a big crab when he found out skating wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. He wouldn't let me walk around with him, only his dad. He was also too cool to be holding a parents hand while he skated.
Abby kept her skates on for a whole 2 minutes and then she cried and refused to wear them. Yep, it was a super fun night! This is what Abby thought of skating. She did enjoy the music though and many times I caught her dancing to the music.
It wasn't one of our best nights but the kids can now say that they have experienced Skate Night and hopefully we don't have to do it again anytime too soon.
