Last year Grandma Hansen introduced our kids to potato digging and they have been asking ever since when they would get to do it again. We went the first part of August which grandma said was a little early but she still had a few potato mounds that they could dig. It is hilarious to watch them! It is like finding treasure each mound they dig. Caleb got really into it. He was jumping on the shovel to make sure he got deep enough so he didn't cut any of the big ones.
Grandma is showing Bryce and Abby where to dig next.
Bryce was pretty proud of the big potato he found. He was also very helpful with picking beans. He went through all the rows after Robb had already picked beans and found a lot that he missed.
Abby was a little sad a first because she didn't find a big potato right away. Instead she decided that she was going to have the smallest potato, and she did. She found one that was the size of a marble and was determined that we were going to cook it and she was going to eat it. It was pretty cute.

My kids love being on the farm. They never run out of things to do. Caleb and Abby found a little frog and they kept it in a cup and played with it for the afternoon.
As always grandma made us a wonderful supper complete with lots of fresh veggies from the garden. The kids are always impressed that she makes gravy for every meal. They will sometimes ask me if I could maybe make good gravy not the kind out of the packet. I hate to break it to them but I think you have to be a grandma to make delicious gravy because that is not a skill I have figured out yet.
Penny always gets to come to grandma Hansen's because she loves grandma and the farm. One of Robb's cousins came over and brought their lab. We were hanging out on the patio and the dogs started fighting over a crumb of cookie that one of the kids had dropped. I know Penny has gotten more vicious in her old age but I didn't expect her to start brawling with a lab! I ended up pulling her out of the fight by the skin on her back. At the time I was just upset at her for starting a fight, I put her in the back room after scolding her. When we went to leave a little later I let her out of the back room and something seemed off about her. She was almost crawling instead of walking and kept shaking her head weird. I started checking her over and felt horrible when I found a deep puncture wound on her head and she appeared to be in pain. We took her home and babied her that night and she still seemed off the next morning, so the kids and I took her to the vet. He said I probably hurt her by pulling her out of the fight by her back since she is so old. I felt like a horrible dog mommy but I also didn't want her to get bit any more. The vet also shaved the area around the puncture spot on her head and gave her an antibiotic shot to prevent infection. Poor 12 year old 15lb dog didn't stand a chance against the 1 year old 60lb dog. He also gave her a muscle relaxant to help her back pain. This picture is her after her muscle relaxant pill. She was so funny she couldn't even keep her eyes open. Her little spat over a cookie ended up costing a $100 which we weren't thrilled about but glad our old doggie is ok!
