It had rained a lot of the night and we woke up to everything being damp. That is the one downfall of tent camping. Robb and I put scrambled eggs in the lodge pot and attempted to cook a hearty breakfast over the fire. The wood wasn't dry enough and our fire was pretty sad. We tried for quite a while and we were getting nowhere. Everyone was starving from the night before since we had eaten chips and cold hotdogs. We decided in that moment to admit defeat and to head into town for some food.
We were in a tiny town where gluten free food is not really a thing. We stopped at a Runza and ordered food and proceeded to beg them to make a plain chicken breast on a section of the grill that they wiped off. As we were explaining our camping while raining situation and our allergy issue the lady was super sweet and said she had a grandkid with allergies and she did everything that we asked for. Abby was a good sport and ate a plain chicken breast and the chips and fruit we had brought in. Everyone was much more agreeable now that we weren't starving. Emmy made us feel really good about the situation though because she kept chanting, "Camping Fail, Camping Fail".
Thankfully, the sun came out and we were able to enjoy the rest of the day. We went fishing, hiking and went to see the waterfall. The river was flowing really fast so it worried me to have the kids in the water but Robb took the older kids one by one and helped them float from the water fall to our campsite.
Smith Falls is so impressive to see! You would never think that something like that exists in Nebraska.
Lucy loves hikes!
