Grammy Hansen hosts a big Christmas Breakfast at her house every year, but since we have gone to trying to be home on Christmas morning so that Santa can come to our house, we have had to miss it. She was able to come down to Norfolk on the day after Christmas though. It is funny that the kids just tower over her. It won't be long before Emmy passes her up.
Steph and I left mid-morning to go the visit the cemetery and to see Grandma and Grandpa in Orchard. The cemetery is always so peaceful out there. Steph had put a little Christmas tree on the gravesite, and we were shocked to see that it was still there despite all the wind. Not only was it still there, but the battery lights were also still on. We had to hang up a Santa hat because that was dad's thing to wear for Christmas. Since he had the grey beard, he did really resemble Santa.
This year has been one of the toughest mental health years I have ever encountered. I had no idea how much losing a parent would hurt and how much it would affect me even 7-8 months down the road. I am doing all the things I need to and I'm trying to show my kids that it is ok to need a counselor, meds and sometimes days that you cry. I know that Dad would want me to get out of bed every day and do all the things that need to be done and I do but that doesn't mean that I don't miss him. I am lucky to have Steph, Mitch and Jess who are in the same boat and who are very supportive.
We stopped to see Cindy before we headed up to the cemetery. She seemed to be doing as well as can be expected for missing someone on holiday. It is always nice to visit with her.
On our way home from Grimton cemetery we called Grandma and Grandpa to see if they were home and if we could stop by. They were home and it was good to chat with them. Grandma has been looking frail lately, her health worries me. Grandpa hasn't seemed to age in years. He is always the same.
This is Bear, grandma and grandpa's big dog. I think him and I became instant friends while I was there. He is so funny! You have to give him constant attention or he is growl talking at you.
