We have avoided the Elf on the Shelf for years now but this year there was no more avoiding it. All the kids friends have an Elf, their classroom has an Elf so I felt really mean when I kept saying no to an Elf. When we went to see Santa they asked him how they could get and Elf and that was all I could take.... I said ok to getting an Elf. The next day low and behold an Elf showed up on our mantle along with the book that explained how to take care of your Elf. Our first task was to name our Elf. We settled on Blitzen. So Blitzen became part of our family. The kids talked to him, wrote him notes and Abby tattled on her brothers to him.
Blitzen did all sorts of crazy things and made a few messes but it was worth it to see the kids light up as they searched for him every morning. We are hoping that he makes a reappearance for Abby's birthday and Emerson's birthday ( We have heard that they sometimes do that). Otherwise we are sure to see Blitzen again next year for more of his antics.
